Hello,

I've been getting an error since yesterday that pops up when I try to run the emulator:

"The underlying connection was closed. Unable to connect to the remote server."

I thought this was due to my firewall settings but I have been running the emulator with Windows Firewall on just fine before, and I also tried putting it in the "Exceptions" to blocked programs list in the Windows Firewall exceptions tab as well, that didn't work. Is this just something that I'll have to wait to get fixed by itself or is there something else I'm overlooking? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

That sounds like the NWS server was having issues (they occasionally do). Can you get to www.nws.noa.gov without trouble? If so, the emulator should be fine.

Yes, I am able to access the NWS homepage and even the Southern Region homepage. I was also able to load the Zone Area forecast successfully, but the emulator is still showing the same problem. Looks like something on my end but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. I even tried repairing my connection to get a different IP address but nothing works. The funny thing is it was working fine till yesterday and I didn't make any changes to it or didn't download any programs that would block its access. Would a complete re-install work? Here's a clue if it helps: When I try to validate the Local Data, I get the exact same error, but when I try to validate the Regional Data and Travel Cities, that works great. Thanks!

Hmmm. Make absolute sure your zone number is correct. Also, try a different local METAR site, and then let me know what happens here.

My zone ID is correct, I double-checked it. I think the problem is definitely on my end since I re-installed the emulator, and during the set-up process, I wasn't able to validate the local radar. A few days ago, my computer was infected with a spyware program and I think it has changed some of my server connection settings. I am able to browse in Firefox without any problems but the funny thing is, nothing will show up in Internet Explorer. About the server connection problem, I don't know where to look. It may be time to call a tech guy and see I can get the problem fixed that way.

That's not good. What I suggest you do is just that...and be prepared, the computer might need to be wwiped clean (everything erased). Back up bookmarks and documents and put them on a flash drive, and have those virus-scanned on the drive after you do this.

Yeah, unfortunately I've had that experience... But I was able to get rid of the spyware and I can use the computer and browse the net without any problems at least in Firefox. I'll be taking it out for a check-up anyway.

Just an update, I found out what the problem was. Apparently my internet connection settings had been altered to use a web proxy, i disabled that option and everything works fine now, I even ran a local forecast right now after re-configuring everything. biggrin.gif Thanks again for the help!
